Major Completed Activities.
EDUCATION:
1)- A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) reached between
SYF and Pakistan literacy commission in May 1999 for the implementation
of 63 Non-formal Schools in the various parts of district Swat.
63 female were trained in teaching techniques and thus the schools
were started. From May 1999 to June 2007, 3245 students (2986
female students and 259 male students) successfully completed
primary education.
2)- Three functional literacy classes were
started in March 1999 with the financial assistance of Pak Swiss
Small Scale Enterprise Promotion Programme for the working female
(Children & adults) in various sectors of Mingora region
and thus 84 working female completed nine months course.
3)- In the year 2001 a Memorandum of Understanding
(MOU) reached between SYF and Education Department Govt: of
NWFP( Under Public Private Collaboration for education program
PPC) and has started intermediate classes in Government Girls
High Schools of Mingora, Gowalirai and Charbagh.411 poor Students
successfully completed faculty of arts (F.A) from September
2001 to June,2007.

HEALTH & NUTRITION PROGRAM:
1)- SYF had provided foodstuffs to 500 students
of Non Formal Basic Education Schools for four years in collaboration
with Catholic Relief Services Pakistan (CRS) to address malnutrition
among targeted poor village students. The activity continued
from December 1999 to May, 2004.
2)- In June, 2005, SYF in collaboration with
OXFAM GB conducted a rapid assessment in the most flood vulnerable
54 villages of district Swat and provided emergency relief to
the Affectees of that natural disaster. During the assessment
it was noted that due to lack of education the vulnerable people
are facing health related problems as they are not adopting
safety measures in day to day life. SYF started a campaign to
create awareness regarding oral and other dangerous diseases
through local newspapers, posters, stickers, pamphlets, and
public meetings. The people were sensitized and mobilized through
volunteers and other health related staff.
3)- SYF had established an MCH center in far-flange
area of Swat district in collaboration with Trust for Voluntary
Organization (TVO) funded by European Commission. SYF was responsible
for the provision of trained staff, internal management, social
mobilization and revenue generation for the sustainability of
the MCH. The major component of the project was to provide Reproductive
health services to the adult population of the area and ensure
quality health facilities in the area. SYF had provided a lady
doctor, LHV, lab attendant and support staff to the center.
The center is equipped with all necessary furniture and other
tools. The project is designed on sustainable principals and
is running smoothly via local community management committee.
4)- The book entitled “A disabled village
children, a guide for community health workers, rehabilitation
workers and families, written by David Werner has been published
in English by Hesperian Foundation USA. The contents of the
book are very useful for all stake holders. But non availability
of the book in national language’ Urdu, is a great problem.
Therefore, SYF with financial assistance of (Small Grants Programme)World
Bank Islamabad and Hesperian Foundation USA translated the book
into national Language, Urdu, and disseminated 500 copies of
the same among the lady health- workers, health practitioners,
rehabilitations centers, public libraries and civil -society
Organizations. These all new information and material served
and are still serving the relevant people to promote the treatment
and rights of persons with disabilities.
5)- Like the past traditions Swat Youth Front
in collaboration with National Trust for Population Welfare
Pakistan (NATPOW) conducted a one day teacher mother’s
orientation workshop at PPC Girls College Haji Baba Mingora
Swat on 24th February, 2007.
the purpose of the workshop was to create awareness among the
women community about women health more than Seventy lecturers,
students and their mothers participated in the workshop. At
the end of the workshop, the participants established a pressure
group to continue further this awareness campaign,
6)- To aware the general masses regarding
the effects of tobacco use, the organization organized several
seminars, workshops, speech competitions, walk & rallies
and sports tournaments with the help of Anti Narcotics Force
Pakistan and District Health Department Swat from the year
2000 till up to date. Moreover SYF, on self help bases, published
and disseminated 10,000 large size posters and 5000 stickers
in Malakand Region to address the hazardous effects of tobacco
use.

POVERTY REDUCTION:
1)- In Feb. 2000 Women Skill Development Project
(WSDP) was launched on self-help bases to enhance skills of
the women folk and thus to create income opportunities on local
level. Under the WSDP, vocational classes took place in March
2000 and 318 women got training in various skills till December
2006.
2)- The organization facilitated 18 female
entrepreneurs to participate in national & International
exhibitions organized by Export Promotion Bureau of Pakistan
(EPBP) and The Folk Heritage (Look Warsa) Pakistan in D.I.Khan,
“Shan door Fare”, Chitral, “Shaker Parya”,
Islamabad and others in order to get exposure and have sufficient
knowledge about marketing of their products. Apart from this
SYF also organized exposure tours for female entrepreneurs to
the industrial cluster of the country to identify new channels
and market for the Swati products.
3)- Information and communication technologies
(ICTs) are also used as learning and empowerment tools. In order
to overcome economical problems of Youths SYF has established
“Learning Institute for Employment” on self-help
basis in February 2005. The center is providing technical trainings
in IT and English language classes to the youths of the district.
Till now 382 students successfully completed the course and
recently 150 students are enrolled.

RELIEF PROJECT FOR SNOW FALL AFFECTEES:
In February and March, 2005, the organization provided relief
assistance in shape of food items to 4096 families and non-food
items to 700 families affected by heavy snow and rainfall in
upper Swat in collaboration with Oxfam GB and CRS Pakistan.

FLOOD PREPAREDNESS PROJECT:
In May, June 2005, the organization has completed River Swat
Flood Preparedness Project in collaboration with Oxfam GB. 54
vulnerable villages situated on the bank of river swat were
identified. The project provided emergency relief to the affectees

SHANGLA EARTH QUACK RESPONSE:
During the recent disaster of earthquake SYF in collaboration
with Oxfam provided quick relief to the 3016 affected families
in 6 union councils in upper part of district Shangla. SYF provided
relief items to 4316 families in district Shangla and Batgram
in collaboration with CRS. SYF also provided 750 female kits
in collaboration with Shirkat Gah Peshawar in district Shangla
and Kohistan. Moreover, SYF jointly with National Trust for
Population Welfare (NTFPW) and Marie Stopes Society UK), conducted
Medical camps in the earth quack affected areas of district
Shangla.

ADVOCACY CAMPAIGNS ON HUMAN RIGHTS,
WOMEN RIGHTS AND CHILD RIGHTS:
1)-To aware the masses about Human Rights and
Women Rights; SYF is regularly celebrating International Human
Rights day, International Women day and other international
campaign days on Human Rights issues from year 2001. SYF organized
12 workshops and 3 seminars on highlighting various Human Rights
issues too.
2)- First legal awareness workshop was conducted
by Shirkat Gaha .Peshawar with SYF women group at Odigram Swat
on 30th May 2007. 33 participants participated in the workshop.
3)- Second legal awareness workshop was conducted
by Shirkat Gaha Peshawar with PPC Girls College students at
PPC Girls College Haji Baba Mingora Swat 0n 22 August, 2007.
56 Participants participated
in the workshop.

LEGAL AWARENESS SESSIONS:
- First Legal Awareness Workshop was conducted
by Shirkat Gaha, Women Resource Center Peshawar with SYF women
group at Odigram Swat on 30th May,2007. 33 participants participated
in the workshop.
- Second Legal Awareness Workshop was conducted
by Shirkat Gaha, Women Resource Center Peshawar with PPC Girls
College students at PPC Girls College Haji Baba Mingora Swat
0n 22 August,2007 . 56 participants participated in the workshop.

PUBLICATIONS:
Swat Youth Front has a rich experience in the field of publication.
SYF with financial assistance of (Small Grants Programme)World
Bank Islamabad and Hesperian Foundation USA translated the book
Disable Village Children into national Language, Urdu, and disseminated
700 copies of the same among the lady health- workers, health
practitioners, rehabilitations centers, public libraries and
civil -society Organizations.
The organization also issued a monthly News Letter Sabawoon
highlighting the activities and events carried out in the month.
To aware the masses about the hazardous effect of tobacco use
SYF published posters on anti tobacco campaigns. In addition
to all these SYF published stackers on different issues like
health & education as well.

VOTER EDUCATION:
To ensure Youth participation and women involvement in the electoral
process SYF time to time created awareness among the masses
through local news papers.

SYF RESPONSE TO SWAT CONFLICT:
Malakand region has been under the spell of Talibanization /
militancy movement since 2006. To aware the locals of the region
about the negative trends of the movement SYF has been carrying
out awareness campaign through advocacy campaigns.
To combat the rising militant threats and establish the writ
of the government, Pakistan security forces launched a massive
operation in the suburbs of district Shangla and Swat in November
2007. As a result several innocent civilian were badly injured.
To provide relief assistance to the injured SYF established
a blood donors group and up till now 100 donations were provided
to the injured people.
The ongoing operation between the security forces and the militants
had forced thousands of people in Swat ands Shangla to flee
their homes about 60% of the 1.6 million populations in Swat
and Shangla valley had left their houses.
Due to SYF advocacy campaign with the government officials more
than 6000 vulnerable families took shelter in various government
schools of Mingora City, Swat.
Due to no governmental support and facilities to the displaced
people volunteers of SYF and other volunteers of the area numbering
70 or 80 took the responsibility and on self help basis and
door to door collection in form of donation, food items and
basic necessities of life carried out the welfare task. As the
military operation successfully accomplished and the government
writ had been established the situation was restored to normalization
the volunteers financially supported the displaced people and
made arrangements of transportation for their going back to
homes.
To pay a tribute to these volunteers, SYF celebrated volunteer
award ceremony on 11th December 2007 in honour of volunteers
for performing outstanding services to the displaced people
affected by military operation in November December, 2007 in
a local hotel.
